About Toep
Toep is the app for Toepen, the Dutch card game. It is made in the Netherlands, for the game as it is played at the kitchen table and in the café.
Who makes Toep
Toep is made by Joff, one person in the Netherlands. Joff builds the app, the website and the online tables.

How Toep began
Toep began as a scorekeeper: an app to track who has how many marks when you play with real cards. With the small players ranking, a penalty wheel and a history of earlier games. That scorekeeper still exists exactly as it was, and it works without internet. Nothing you keep in it is sent to us.
Then came online play: at a private table with your own friends, at a public table against other players, or against the computer at three levels. With friends, clubs, leaderboards and challenges around it, in the app and in the browser.
The app has been downloaded more than 70,000 times.
Why it is the way it is
A few choices run through everything Toep does:
- The game as it is played. Toep's rules are written down to every edge case: what happens if someone folds after already playing a card, or if two players reach the edge at once. Whatever your group plays differently, you set under variants.
- A table is not a chat. At the table you talk with emotes and set phrases, not free text. That way nobody has to read something they did not want to.
- A person decides. Reports are read by a person. Tools help to find things, but a decision about a player or a message is always made by a person.
- Free to play. Everything in Toep can be played for free. The app earns from ads, and those are only tailored to you if you give permission.
Free and Premium
Toep is free, with ads. If you want to support Toep or would rather not see ads, you can take Toep Premium, per month or per year. Premium removes the ads and gives extra XP, exclusive card backs, avatars and banners, detailed statistics, five clubs and replays of your games. More on that in the frequently asked questions.
